EasyFil™ PLA is a high-end “easy to use” 3D printer filament, which is slightly modified with an impact modifier making the filament tougher, slightly softer, less rigid, much longer preservable and easy to print at relatively low temperatures.

Another great advantage of EasyFil™ PLA – compared to regular PLA – is EasyFil™’s low shrinkage factor, which makes EasyFil™ PLA nearly warp-free and therefore  EasyFil™ PLA will not deform after cooling. Due to its low tendency to warp EasyFil™ PLA can be printed without a heated print bed. If your printer is however equipped with a heated print bed we recommend to set your heat bed temperature to ± 35° to 60°C.

Next to its “easy to use” features, our Formfutura EasyFil™ filament range has an excellent roundness and very tight diameter and roundness tolerances, which makes this filament a perfect match with all common desktop 3D printers. Printing with EasyFil™ PLA 3D printer filament will go very smoothly with basically all FFF/FDM technology based desktop 3D printers, such as:

  • Ultimaker Original
  • Ultimaker 2
  • RepRap (Mendel, Huxley, Prusa)
  • Solidoodle
  • MakerBot (Replicator, Replicator 2, Replicator 2X)
  • Leapfrog
  • UP! Plus, Up! Mini
  • AND MANY MORE....!

PLA (Poly-Lactic Acid in full) is a thermoplastic which is extruded from the starch of plants, such as corn, cassava, sugarcane, cereals, or sugar beet. By being derived from biological resources this type of thermoplastic can be biodegradable under the right conditions (such as an active compost heap, with enough presence of oxygen) and therefore has a much lesser environmental impact than thermoplastics derived from fossil fuels.

Our EasyFil™ PLA does not contain any hazourdas, or chemical substances. In fact, all our EasyFil™ PLA filaments are RoHS certified and REACH compliant.

Product details

Our EasyFil™ PLA 3D printer filament is wrapped on a transparent ABS plastic spool which contains approximately 0.75Kg of filament. Our spool-wrapped EasyFil™ PLA filaments are packed in a silica sealed bag and come in a full colour printed cardboard box, which in turn is also sealed in plastic. Please see below for more details with respect to the weight and packaging of our spool-wrapped EasyFil™ PLA 3D printer filaments:

General Tips & Tricks for printing with PLA filaments

The printing temperature guideline for printing with our EasyFil™ PLA filament is approximately 210-220°C. As each desktop 3D printer has its own unique characteristics, you might need to tweak around with your temperature settings a bit to get the best results. To obtain optimal results for your prints you need to take into account variables like your 3D printer’s nozzle diameter, your printing speed settings, and layer height.

PLA has much less tendency to warp compared to ABS. Therefore it can be printed both with and without a heated print bed. However, if your desktop 3D printer does have a heated print bed it is recommended to set your print bed temperature to approximately 35° to 60° C.

A good first layer adhesion is of the utmost importance in obtaining the best results for your prints.  Firstly make sure that you print bed is accurately levelled and clean. Next, there are several tricks to get the first layer of your PLA print to stick better to the print bed of your 3D printer.

  • Blue Masking Tape. PLA prints usually stick really well to blue masking tape. When preparing the print bed it is better to have tiny gaps between your strokes of masking tape, rather than having overlaps. Overlaps of smaller pieces of tape may cause difficulties later on during the print process. We have tested a wide variety of masking tapes and found that the best results can be obtained with Eurocel Blue Masking Tape.
  • Coat your print bed with hairspray. Like ABS, PLA has a tendency to stick really well to extra strong hairsprays.

Blue masking tape is unlikely to leave a residue on your print bed. A hairspray coating however will leave a residue on your print bed.
